How PRTG defines sensors
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, e.g. the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, the free space of a disk drive. On average you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
PRTG provides more than 250 preconfigured sensors that allow you to add new devices and measurement data to your monitoring in just a few clicks. The following sensors, among others, are available for server rack monitoring:
SNMP Cisco UCS Chassis sensor
This sensor monitors the health of a Cisco UCS chassis and measures general operating parameters, power, and temperature, among other things.

This sensor monitors the status of the uninterruptible power supply using an APC UPS device via SNMP.
SNMP Dell PowerEdge Physical Disk sensor
This sensor monitors the state of the hard disks in Dell PowerEdge servers via SNMP.
