PRTG enables MSPs to ensure reliable service

Los Angeles, CA and Nuremberg, Germany (November 3, 2009) - In today's fast-paced business environment, ensuring the reliability of vital IT networks and infrastructure is an absolute must, and managed service providers (MSPs) are held to incredibly high standards by their clients who demand 100 percent uptime. Network failure is simply not an option - at least not for MSPs that plan to stay in business.

To help ensure maximum uptime and superior service quality, Paessler AG's PRTG Network Monitor enables MSPs to deliver cost-effective network monitoring tools to their customers that can help safeguard against unexpected downtime and provide an easy-to-understand snapshot of the entire network environment. With critical network data available at a glance, MSPs and their clients are able to proactively identify and address potential issues before they become full-scale problems, saving valuable time, money and resources and preserving valuable customer relationships.

The company has recently been accepted into the MSPAlliance Vendor Accreditation Program (VAP), a first-of-its-kind program designed by MSPs to serve as a benchmark for vendors who sell to the MSP community. Vendors earning the VAP seal have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the MSP channel.

"PRTG Network Monitor keeps us informed about events on our and our clients' networks and allows us to provide a better quality and more reliable service than we could without it," said Stephane Auger, director of operations at ZEROFAIL, one of the most trusted providers of high-reliability, high-volume 10Mbps+ fiber connectivity, hosted desktop solutions and datacenter hosting services.

As an MSP, ZEROFAIL has woven PRTG through nearly every aspect of its service offerings, and considers it to be a very worthwhile, and very affordable, investment in helping to protect themselves and their customers from unexpected and lengthy downtime.

"PRTG saves us hundreds of man hours of work by allowing us to be proactive instead of reactive," Auger said. "Our customers are quite impressed when we tell them that we've corrected a problem that they hadn't even noticed yet, and they love that we provide them with access to view their data usage and other network information. This quick-response and value-added service definitely gives us a competitive edge over other providers."

Paessler's PRTG Network Monitor uses remote probes deployed throughout the MSP's main architecture and on customer networks to gather and report data back to the MSP's core (administrator) PRTG Network Monitor installation. The probes can be configured to monitor for just about any parameter required - data transmission speed, traffic load, server response time, available storage capacity, uptime, and much more - and enable network monitoring on a virtually infinite number of locally distributed customer networks with a single core installation.

PRTG can be run as a credential-based system, where MSP administrators set up user accounts for each client. Depending on each client's individual needs, the MSP can provide each one with full access to their sensor data to monitor and manage the network on their own; or, the MSP can provide read-only access to allow clients to monitor the network, but not adjust any configuration. Alternatively, MSPs can use PRTG to automatically publish monitoring data in the form of a map on a customer's intranet.

A flexible notification system can be configured to send an instant alert in the event of specified network events via e-mail, telephone, SMS or pager to both client and MSP technical representatives as needed.

"For MSPs, PRTG also provides valuable up sell opportunities to help MSPs increase revenue, with the option to provide monitoring as an add-on service," said Ken Sanofsky, Paessler's US General Manager. "It even allows MSPs to more confidently suggest product and service upgrades to clients by providing evidence of their usage to demonstrate the need. If a customer is approaching a bandwidth threshold, for example, they need not just take your word for it. With PRTG you can show them the hard numbers. It makes the up sell process much easier."

PRTG's flexible and scalable deployment options allow MSPs to dispatch remote probes to monitor as many customer networks as desired, for as long or as short a time as needed, regardless of their physical location. The web-based graphical user interface (dashboard) may be branded for customer viewing, and the easy-to-use system requires minimal end-user support.

An attractive and cost-efficient pricing model allows MSPs to scale up the number of probes as business growth demands; customers start out paying for the license they need now, and only pay the difference when upgrading to a greater license. And, because PRTG Network Monitor requires no special MSP license, MSPs can setup fully-functional monitoring service even on the freeware edition, and pay for additional sensors as needed.

Paessler will be a featured vendor at MSPWorld Las Vegas, sponsored by the MSPAlliance, November 12 and 13 at The Venetian in Las Vegas, NV.
