Cisco Live in Milan: Paessler presents new SNMP Trap and Syslog Receiver Sensors

Nuremberg, January 22, 2014 - The finishing touches have been made, the new version is now available: Paessler's software PRTG Network Monitor now includes more than ten new sensor types, among other new features. Visitors to the trade fair Cisco Live on January 27 - 31 at MiCo (Milano Congressi in Milan) can learn more about these new developments at Stand E63. Monitoring experts from Paessler will also be presenting sensors for monitoring Cisco Unified computing systems and servers. New developments include the SNMP Trap Receiver and the Syslog Receiver Sensors. Also new to the software is an integrated ticket system for creating workflows for network problems.

The new SNMP Trap Receiver Sensor receives SNMP traps, with which network devices can communicate system incidents, outages or interruptions. PRTG receives, filters and analyzes these notifications and sets the sensor to a custom-defined status according to the content of the notifications. The Syslog Receiver receives Syslog messages from various network devices. With the help of this sensor, Syslogs from various services and components can be collected in a high performance database and analyzed centrally on the PRTG server. Based on various parameters, such as key words or urgency levels ('severity'), PRTG triggers necessary alarms so that the administrator can check message content selectively.

Targeted Monitoring of Cisco Products

Paessler will also be presenting its solutions for the Cisco product range at Cisco Live. The technical experts from Paessler also have two new sensors for the monitoring of Cisco Unified Computing and Server (UCS) devices up their sleeves. The 'SNMP Cisco UCS System Health Sensor' monitors, for example, fans and power supply units, while the 'SNMP Cisco UCS Chassis Sensor' collects various status values regarding server housing.

New Features for Lenovo, NetApp and IPFIX

Additional sensor types, for example, a sensor that monitors Windows services with SNMP, a 'SNMP LenovoEMC Physical Disk Sensor' and a 'SNMP NetApp Logical Unit Sensor' expand PRTG's monitoring options. PRTG also now features sensors for monitoring IPFIX, the successor protocol to NetFlow9: The 'IPFIX Sensor' keeps tabs on the standard parameters in the IPFIX data packets. For a more precise solution, there is the 'IPFIX (Custom) Sensor'. With this sensor users can visualize data streams in individual channels.

React to Problems Even Faster

Paessler has integrated a ticketing system into PRTG as well, which replaces and expands on the existing 'To Do' function. Using the new ticketing system, administrators can manage various incidents that occur during monitoring and can view system information. In addition, workflows can be defined for network problems identified by PRTG. If an outage occurs, PRTG can create a 'notification ticket' and send it to a user or a specific user group - for example, all PRTG system administrators. If the monitoring software notices that the outage or disturbance has been resolved, the corresponding ticket can be closed automatically, without assistance from an administrator.
