Hospital El Pilar is a private hospital in Guatemala City with over 50 years of experience and more than 20,000 patients per year. For an institution where system availability directly affects patient care, reactive IT operations were not an option.
The IT team had no single view of the hospital's infrastructure. Servers, switches, security cameras, air conditioning, power systems, and critical applications all ran without centralized monitoring. Problems surfaced only after they caused disruption. A data center issue went undetected until sensors revealed condensation was raising humidity in a sensitive operating area. Server crashes during Windows updates went unnoticed until disk space ran out.
Hospital El Pilar implemented Paessler PRTG to consolidate monitoring across all critical systems into a single dashboard. The team now tracks real-time performance indicators for servers, switches, security cameras, power, air conditioning, tanks, bandwidth, and network traffic in one place.
PRTG alerts the team before problems escalate. The data center humidity issue was identified and resolved after sensors flagged abnormal dew point conditions. Disk space shortfalls causing server crashes were caught and corrected. The IT department shifted from reactive to proactive, detecting infrastructure anomalies before they affect hospital operations.
Analysts now have access to incident, problem, and change metrics in user-friendly graphs. Monitoring runs 24x7 across 70 servers, CCTV, network switches, and environmental controls. Implementation was supported by Ordenador Digital, a Paessler partner, who also trained hospital staff.
With PRTG, we are now more proactive and have improved the quality of our services. Now, we have everything measured: power, air conditioning, tanks, surveillance cameras (CCTV), processors, memories, disks, switches, bandwidth, and network traffic. We can see what is happening and act before any problem arises.
