Zurich Airport runs 24/7. When something fails, the IT team needs to know immediately. For a long time, that wasn't happening fast enough.
The team relied on several tools at once: CiscoWorks, Nagios, the HP Network Node Manager, and in-house scripts. None were built for quick, ad-hoc monitoring by both operations and engineering teams.
SLAs were also getting stricter. The team needed clear, traceable evidence that services were running as promised. Their existing setup couldn't deliver that reliably.
PRTG replaced the fragmented stack with a single monitoring environment. The team deployed IP SLA sensors to track network performance centrally, alongside WMI, SNMP, and ping sensors. Nagios and the in-house tools were decommissioned.
Video surveillance became one of PRTG's most valuable use cases. When image quality degraded, the team used PRTG to measure network load, RAM, processor load, service status, and write speed simultaneously. That combination pinpointed the culprit: a Windows service that reported as running but had silently stopped processing data. Without that visibility, the bug could have gone undetected.
PRTG also handles multi-tenancy across the IT organization. Admins get a private area to test devices before they go live. Support teams access libraries showing only the devices they're responsible for, with their own notification schedules. The IT team runs the platform centrally.
Integration with the trouble ticket system means PRTG alarms trigger the right workflow automatically.
The reactivity, know-how, and technical solutions of Paessler support are outstanding in every situation. For me, no monitoring tool compares to PRTG.
