Noris Inklusion is a Nuremberg-based organization supporting people with disabilities through production facilities, residential projects, and educational programs. A lean IT team manages infrastructure spread across a data center, offices, six production sites, and multiple housing units.
The team had been running Nagios, implemented by a service provider. Operating and expanding it proved too complex for a small in-house team.
They needed a comprehensive monitoring solution intuitive enough to manage without specialist support, and affordable on a non-profit budget.
PRTG replaced Nagios with a setup the team could run themselves. Auto Discovery identified devices across all sites. Switches, firewalls, VMware, and Citrix systems are monitored out of the box.
Remote probes collect data at each site and send it encrypted to the central PRTG server at no extra cost, making distributed monitoring feasible on a limited budget.
The use cases went beyond standard infrastructure. Door-locking systems are monitored via radio connection status, satisfying data protection requirements without accessing systems directly. Time-recording terminals are tracked for availability only. Empty files in strategic locations act as honeypots: any change flags a potential encryption attack.
Temperature sensors feed workshop data into automated reports. That data showed morning ventilation could replace air conditioning entirely.
With so many sites, we need to be able to locate errors immediately and with precision. After all, we don’t have IT teams in all our workshops and housing units. Instead, in the case of an emergency, we have to leave our office and head to the location with the anomaly. Thanks to PRTG, we always know where that is.
