ASAC Comunicaciones is a Spanish MSP serving public sector clients including municipalities, county councils, and government agencies.
After building two data centers, ASAC deployed Zenoss, an open-source monitoring solution. The problems mounted: no manufacturer support, no training, a Linux-based platform requiring specialized expertise, and few native plugins for the devices ASAC needed to monitor. When the monitoring team grew to ten people, the long learning curve became a serious bottleneck.
The hidden cost of Zenoss was equivalent to a commercial solution. ASAC evaluated ManageEngine, WhatsUp Gold, and Zabbix before choosing PRTG.
PRTG replaced Zenoss across both data centers. The decision came down to intuitive operation, short onboarding, customer-accessible views with configurable access levels, a broad native sensor library, and quick remote probe deployment.
ASAC uses five PRTG servers covering virtualization, networking, storage, databases, physical data center conditions, CCTV, and energy consumption per rack and client.
Apache incidents are resolved automatically: PRTG detects a failure, triggers a script, and restarts the service without human intervention. Oracle databases use custom query sensors. One consolidated dashboard serves the 24/7 support team.
Tag-based reporting means new servers appear in monthly client reports the moment they are tagged. ASAC runs 140+ internal reports.
PRTG allows us to have all our machines and processes of the control centers and satellite tracking ground stations monitored in real time and remotely. The truth is that it has been very easy to configure and manage. It has also saved us a lot of time and work investigating incidents in the operational systems because as soon as an alarm is triggered, it sends it to us by e-mail and then we go straight to resolve the anomaly.
