MEWA ARENA, 1,100 employees, stadium + traditional IT
1. FSV Mainz 05 is a Bundesliga soccer club with 1,100 employees and over 20,000 members. The MEWA ARENA is fully digitalized: IT controls ticket sales, turnstiles, bratwurst cash registers, floodlights, video analysis systems, and club radio.
Before a home game, the club must pass around 100 compliance checks required by the German Football League (DFL). Three separate systems were in use: HPE Intelligent Management Center, Woodstone Servers Alive, and Kentix ONE. Integrating them proved difficult; none delivered unified real-time visibility.
A single platform was needed to cover IT and stadium technology.
PRTG replaced all three tools. Kentix sensors and door systems integrate natively. SNMP, PowerShell, and APIs connect firewalls, backup, and the Büro+ ERP.
Stadium maps display the floor plan as a background, with monitored devices at their exact physical locations. When a turnstile jams, PRTG flags it on the map and sends a plain-text push notification to the technician's mobile device with the exact location.
A PowerShell script feeds the DFL match calendar into PRTG so game-day systems are automatically included in monitoring before each home game. Services that fail restart automatically without human intervention.
PRTG also enabled Mainz 05 to meet all ISO 27701 data protection management requirements.
From the outset, our objective was to become proficient in PRTG so we could maintain and develop our monitoring environment autonomously. Our service provider trained our employees on the ins-and-outs of our solution during the implementation of the tool. In no time at all, we were able to develop our own dashboards and extensions for PRTG. This wouldn't have been possible without the outstanding usability of the monitoring tool.
