Hume Bank is a customer-owned financial institution serving regional communities across north-eastern Victoria and southern New South Wales, with 150 staff, 19 branches, and 47 ATMs. All benefits flow back to customers, making reliable service a core commitment, not just operational.
The bank needed greater visibility into its IT network to maintain a highly available platform across branches, ATMs, and Eftpos terminals. Issues had to be caught before customers were affected.
After trialing a free version of PRTG and comparing it against SolarWinds and Nagios on cost and features, Hume Bank chose PRTG.
PRTG was deployed across the bank's virtual infrastructure using local and remote probes, covering data centers, all 19 branches, and the ATM network. Some 900 sensors monitor servers, switches, routers, applications, ATMs, and Eftpos terminals.
Internet banking response times are tracked for both desktop and mobile, so the team knows about slowdowns before customers raise complaints.
Custom executables were built for specific sensors and SMS-based alert delivery. When an ATM goes offline, the team is alerted immediately. When Eftpos links show issues, action is taken before the impact reaches customers.
PRTG also supports capacity planning by flagging bottlenecks and helping the team allocate resources to areas that need attention, reducing reactive troubleshooting.
PRTG is a great product, which simply just works. Price and scope of features were the key drivers behind our choice of PRTG.
