4,500 sensors, pediatric hospital, IT team of 7
ALYN Hospital is Israel's only pediatric rehabilitation facility, treating children and adolescents with physical disabilities from Israel and abroad. Several departments house ventilated children whose condition depends on network-connected medical devices running without interruption.
The IT team of seven was running Microsoft SCOM but felt it didn't provide enough insight into the network. Preventive maintenance was difficult. The team couldn't adequately monitor medical equipment alongside standard IT infrastructure, and lacked early visibility into developing problems.
They needed a robust solution capable of monitoring both IT components and critical medical devices from a single platform, without relying on external setup support.
PRTG was configured by the team without external support. Within months, it was monitoring 4,500 sensors across physical servers, virtual machines, switches, ports, SQL databases, and specialized medical devices including ventilators.
Preventive maintenance improved immediately. PRTG surfaces potential problems before they reach doctors and therapists, who now work without raising support tickets for issues the IT team already has visibility into.
The ventilator monitoring use case is the most critical. Several departments rely on network-connected ventilators to keep patients stable. PRTG can pinpoint connectivity issues with individual devices, which in the words of the IT director has been lifesaving in some cases.
Custom scripts extend coverage to SQL database checks beyond what preconfigured sensors handle out of the box.
Looking ahead to the future, we can see PRTG growing with us and with our needs and this is promising for us. This solution is very responsive and grows easily unlike other solutions that we have tried in the past. As we add more devices and sensors over time, it’s good to know that we have a solution in place that is robust.
