Founded in Nuremberg Germany in 1997, Paessler is now represented in many international markets, supporting our partners and customers locally. But how did our software come about to make IT Admins all over the world so happy?
1997 – 2003
As a student, Dirk Paessler creates software for Fireball, later developing Webserver Stress Tool and IPCheck. In 2001, he founds Paessler GmbH. Frustrated with MRTG, he builds PRTG from scratch—its name inspired by MRTG, but not its code. PRTG marks the start of Paessler’s success in network monitoring.
2004 – 2011
As Paessler grows, it moves to its first dedicated office in Fürth. In 2003, Christian Twardawa joins, shaping marketing, sales, and finance. By 2005, the team grows to 10, and Paessler GmbH becomes Paessler AG, reflecting Dirk’s vision of a collaborative, employee-driven software company.
2012 – 2019
PRTG becomes a global brand for SMB IT monitoring. In 2017, Paessler celebrates its 20th anniversary. The company expands into healthcare and IoT, launches a partner program, and introduces PRTG Enterprise Monitor. By 2019, Paessler grows to 250 employees and opens a large Nuremberg office.
2020 – Present
Paessler’s innovation expands PRTG beyond traditional IT, offering tailored solutions for diverse sectors, including IT/OT convergence. In 2024, a strategic investment from Turn River Capital combines resources and expertise to boost innovation and value for over 500,000 global PRTG users.
