As a provider of computer security and network monitoring services, Silent4Business was challenged to monitor one of the largest networks in the healthcare sector in Mexico comprised of approximately 1,100 sites connected by a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. Their client had a network provider, but could not verify the level of availability. They selected Silent4Business to ensure high availability since no site can be without service for more than four hours in a period of 30 days.

PRTG as the solution
To solve this problem, a tool was needed that could monitor different network components such as: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), routers, switches, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and access points, since it was required to configure more than 27,000 sensors.
“When looking for a tool that could help us with this challenge, Paessler PRTG Network Monitor caught our attention, not only because of the many different components it can support, but because of its unlimited licensing model, since the number of sensors we needed to implement was very high. We decided on PRTG and implemented a distributed solution to have the necessary visibility to detect and notify in real time of any failures or if we exceeded defined thresholds,” said Luis Alberto Valle Rueda, operations manager of Silent4Business.
“Our client was clear that their sites could not experience component failures because that represented significant losses for the services provided to their patients. PRTG was the right fit for our client’s needs because it allowed us to ensure that we could achieve the uptime they required. Within a month, we set up PRTG and installed the necessary components, enabling us to solve this challenge,” said Valle Rueda.

- Easy integration of the monitoring system with the customer's ticket system, which sent an alert and automatically generated a ticket if it detected a component failure.
- Native integration with the mobile messaging system to receive notifications in real time.
- Distributed operation to implement several probes for a specific number of components.
- The ability to scale easily if more components needed to be added. They simply integrated another probe to the core server, which was very easy to do.
