What is PING? An abbreviation for Packet Internet Groper, a PING tool is used to verify the connection to one or more remote hosts. A PING tool works by sending a packet (a piece of a message) to a specified IP address, and then waiting for a reply. PING tools are useful for determining whether a distant computer is successfully linked to the network, whether a particular IP address exists and is currently working, and for checking how fast the current connection is. A PING tool can also be used for diagnosing IP network or router failures.
PRTG Network Monitor is a Windows-based tool that makes it easy to detect network and website failures early. It uses a variety of different sensors, among them PING, PORT, HTTP, and DNS, to monitor devices and servers located on the Internet, on Intranets, and on VPN networks.
