PRTG Network Monitor is Paessler's comprehensive network monitoring software, which allows you to record network traffic in real time, check the availability of your servers, and to load and performance test your network.

How Does the Real Time Network Traffic Monitor Work?

PRTG uses SNMP, packet sniffing, and NetFlow to acquire net bandwidth usage data. SNMP is the most basic method, which shows you total network traffic, and allows you to break the data down by port. For a more detailed real time network traffic analysis, you can use packet sniffers: by sniffing network traffic (ie. analyzing all data packets travelling through the network), the network traffic analysis tool enables you to filter the traffic by IP address, protocol, or other parameters. Another method is network traffic monitoring using NetFlow or sFlow, if your network devices support either of these protocols. This method provides a similar level of detail than sniffing network traffic, yet puts a lower CPU load on the server running the real time network traffic monitor.

Take Advantage of PRTG's Full Functionality and Increase Network Performance

However, PRTG is more than a software to record network traffic. It is also an advanced PING test tool which checks if all your servers and network devices are up and running. This helps you to quickly detect downtimes and troubleshoot all network problems before they affect your bottom line. Packet loss tests check VoIP latency and jitter, making sure that streaming technologies are not affected by bandwidth bottlenecks. In addition, more than 130 different sensor types enable you to monitor virtually anything in your network: printers, hard disks, CPU usage, memory, processes, virtual servers, web and file servers, databases, email servers, etc.

PRTG Network Monitor

The network monitor and network traffic analysis tool PRTG is available in two editions. For basic, free bandwidth tracking and availability monitoring, the Freeware Edition may be downloaded and used for personal and commercial use completely free of charge. For more advanced needs, licenses for the Commercial Editions start at $400 / €300.
