Since version 7, PRTG's web-based Map Editor offers the great opportunity to display your monitoring data exactly the way you want it to be arranged. Our customers create maps using their companies' floor plans, assemble specific list views, or show the overall monitoring status of different branch offices on a global geographical map-just to mention some examples. Based on user feedback, we constantly improved the editor.

With PRTG version 8.4 (download) we're excited to introduce a complete rewrite of the Map Editor allowing to create maps in your browser in even more straightforward manner! It has never been easier: Simply select an object and drop it directly onto the map!

Items on the map can be added, moved, and altered easily. A new, intuitive design concept permanently displays all necessary design elements next to the map you're editing: The device tree containing all of your monitoring objects, on the left side, and the 'Properties' box with which you define the appearance of a map item, on the right side. Using intelligent scripting, these boxes can be resized or even hidden in order to gain more space to edit the actual map. When hidden, they will re-appear on hover.

To add a new object, find your monitoring object in the device tree, drag it on the map, and double click on a convenient graphic representation to apply it. This can be, for example, one the of the different device icons that come with the Map Editor, a graph, a data table, or many other things. Existing map items can be replaced or changed simply by dragging another object on it.

You can still connect any map items using lines and you can, of course, also add your own icons, for example, to use device symbols showing your company's branding. Any map can be made publicly available to users without logging in to PRTG, using an URL containing a "secret" map ID only known to the people you disclose it to.

Download PRTG 8.4 and try the new Map editor now!
