PRTG Network Monitor usually activates your license automatically via the internet during the installation process. Only if the system that runs your PRTG server cannot connect to the Paessler activation server, you must manually activate your license.

PRTG comes with a built-in failover cluster for high-availability monitoring. A failover cluster consists of two separate PRTG core server installations, where one server acts as the master node and one server as the failover node.

To find the information to manually activate your PRTG Network Monitoring license, log in to the PRTG web interface and go to Setup | License Information.

Open the activation_request.json file to find the License Key and System ID. The default location of this file is C:\ProgramData\Paessler\PRTG OPC UA Server. You do not need an Activation Token for PRTG OPC UA Server. For more information, see the PRTG OPC UA Server Quick Start Guide.
To find the System ID and the License Key, open PRTG MultiBoard and go to the License Information settings. You do not need an Activation Token for PRTG MultiBoard.

To find the License Key and the System ID, open PRTG Data Exporter and go to Administration | License Information. The Key in PRTG Data Exporter is your License Key. You do not need an Activation Token for PRTG Data Exporter.

No, the Machine ID is different from the System ID. PRTG Data Exporter displays the Machine ID on the License Information tab for certain licenses. In this case, click click Activate license on the License Information tab to see your System ID.
