PRTG hosted by Paessler – Service Description
PRTG hosted by Paessler is the cloud solution for network monitoring from Paessler AG. The PRTG server, which is responsible for the visualization, configuration, and management of the network monitoring environment, is operated by Paessler AG.
Use of PRTG hosted by Paessler requires a user account on the web portal https://my-prtg.com, where the customer can rent a PRTG server by selecting a subscription. The various subscriptions differ in the number of available sensors, in the performance of the PRTG server, and in the costs incurred by the customer.
The PRTG hosted by Paessler service consists of the following components:
- The web portal https://my-prtg.com: selecting, managing, and billing PRTG server subscriptions
- The PRTG server: processes and visualizes the monitoring data, is accessible via the PRTG web interface and other clients
- The remote probe: collects monitoring data in the customer's network
Paessler AG operates the PRTG servers for the customers. This includes the following tasks:
- Provision of a Windows server with PRTG installed
- Operating system updates and PRTG updates
- Regular backups of the monitoring data
- Ensure the function of the PRTG server
- Automatic adjustment of the PRTG server performance when a subscription is changed
The Web Portal
The web portal https://my-prtg.com is used to select, manage, and pay for PRTG server subscriptions. We recommend that the latest versions of Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari be used to access the web portal.
After creation of a user account, the customer can choose from several different subscriptions. The Trial Plan allows the customer to test PRTG hosted by Paessler for 10 days free of charge. If the customer wishes to use PRTG hosted by Paessler beyond the trial period, they can convert their trial subscription into a paid subscription. At the end of the trial period, the PRTG server and the collected monitoring data are deleted.
PRTG hosted by Paessler is billed monthly based on the number of sensors that you select. For more information on pricing and billing, see the FAQ for PRTG hosted by Paessler.
The PRTG server collects and visualizes monitoring data as well as status information about the IT infrastructure. The monitored devices and their sensors are configured via the web interface of the PRTG server. The customer can create regular reports, manage users, and create custom dashboards in the web interface. Should problems or failures occur within the monitored IT infrastructure, the PRTG server notifies the customer in the form of email or push notifications, for example.
For more information, see PRTG User Manual
The prerequisite for reading monitoring data from a local network is the installation of the remote probe. The remote probe must be installed on a Windows computer. The remote probe receives the configuration from the PRTG server, executes the monitoring processes on the computer in the local network, and sends the collected data back to the PRTG server for processing and visualization.
