Today we have another sensor in store for our Cisco users. Perhaps you already know about the SNMP Cisco System Health sensor, which allows you to keep an eye on the general health status (like CPU load, memory, temperatures) of your Cisco devices, and have read our blog series on monitoring Cisco devices with PRTG.

Now, with the SNMP Cisco UCS Blade sensor, you can also gain detailed insights into your Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) server using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

If you run a Cisco UCS Blade server, you've probably spent quite some time configuring it to fit the needs of your environment. You should monitor this integral part of your IT infrastructure closely to ensure it runs error-free and you do not have to set it up again if it fails. With the SNMP Cisco UCS Blade sensor you can act before a server outage occurs as it warns you in time on the following states:

  • Operability,
  • Oper state, and
  • Power state.

To show you the states of the individual blades in an easily understandable format like, for example, "Operable" for the Operability channel or "On" for the Power State channel, this sensor type uses lookups. If you want to change the behavior of a certain channel, just have a look at the PRTG manual chapter "Define Lookups".

If you have one or more Cisco UCS blade servers in your network and want to find out more about this sensor type, just have a look at the corresponding page in the PRTG manual—and now, just start monitoring!
