How Does the PRTG Windows Monitor Work?
The PRTG network administrator software uses SNMP and WMI to monitor Windows system parameters such as CPU load, memory usage, disk health, free disk space, etc. This enables you to check network load, Windows performance, and to identify network usage trends.
The PRTG Windows performance monitor tracks network bandwidth utilization using SNMP, packet sniffing, and NetFlow analyzers. This way, the monitoring tools show you which IP address, application, or protocol, causes most network traffic and helps you to avoid bandwidth congestion.
In addition, the Windows monitor includes syslog and SNMP trap sensors, which facilitate the communication between PRTG and network devices.
