A terminal server is a function which provides graphical user interfaces or command lines about a network to a client computer. Moreover the terminal client can receive mouse and keyboard entries.

The execution oft the application software as well as the storage of data takes place on the host. The user can use the network resources as if they were installed on the client. The output is redirected over the network to the client. Several clients can use this network service simultaneously.
