PRTG Network Monitor is Paessler's comprehensive network monitoring and management solution. It measures bandwidth and network usage, tracks the availability of network devices and tracks the performance of your network and websites.

Conducting a Regular Web Performance Test Using PRTG

PRTG's wide range of network monitoring resources makes running web performance tests easy.

  • The PING sensor enables you to monitor the availability and load time of your website. A number of HTTP-sensors let you check whether a certain text is included on a website or whether your shopping cart is working correctly, or even whether a whole web page can be downloaded correctly.
  • SQL sensors monitor the performance and availability of your databases.
  • Furthermore, PRTG comes with a built-in Amazon Cloudwatch sensor, which allows you to monitor AWS cloud resources in order to check the performance of your cloud servers.
  • If the web performance test finds an issue or unusual behaviour, you will be notified immediately: the flexible alerting system can send emails, pager messages or SMS, play a sound, execute an external application, or send SNMP Traps to warn you of slow response times or downtimes.

However, PRTG can do much more than running a web performance test.

  • As it supports the NetFlow protocol used to monitor Cisco switches and routers, PRTG is an excellent Cisco performance monitor.
  • To troubleshoot your network is easy with PRTG, as the software collects important data in once central place. The free syslog server and SNMP Trap Receiver sensor, for example, collect log data from network devices, store it in one central place and can trigger notifications based on the content of these log messages
  • The network monitor is also a VoIP monitoring manager, which checks the quality of VoIP connections by monitoring parameters such as VoIP jitter, packet loss, etc.
