Like all sensors of IPCheck Server Monitor the standard PING sensor only offers a resolution of seconds for configuration of warning and timeout values which can be too limiting in some situations. This article shows how you can also work with millisecond warning and error times for PINGs using a custom sensor.

This custom sensor "ONEPING.EXE" is realized as an EXE file. Every time the sensor is run, this EXE file is executed. It sends one PING to the servername/IP-address given in the command line parameter and measures the time in ms.

You can download a ZIP with the EXE file here.

The EXE file from this ZIP file must be placed in the "custom" subfolder of the installation folder of IPCheck Server Monitor (usually c:\program files\ipcheck server monitor 4\custom).

Note: If you place a new EXE/DLL file into the custom directory you must restart the IPCheck Server Monitor web server service to be able to use this sensor.

To use this sensor now create a new sensor and select "CUSTOM" sensor. Note: You must run a Professional License to be able to work with CUSTOM sensors.

From the "Sensor" list choose "OnePing" and in the "Parameter" field enter the DNS name or the IP address of the machine your want to ping. In the "Check Values" section you can configure your warning and error levels in milliseconds.

There is a screenshot in the ZIP file that shows a sample configuration.
