Packet Capture
What is Packet Capture?
Paessler's packet capture software PRTG Network Monitor uses packet sniffers to scan and analyze network traffic data. It offers a powerful combination of network management tools, which also include tools for monitoring availability and network performance, and for monitoring load. Using the packet capture functionality, PRTG measures bandwidth usage, which can be broken down by IP address, protocol, or other parameters. Thus, the tool scans network traffic data and helps you to identify unusual traffic patterns which could be caused by malware, and enables you to buy bandwidth according to actual needs.
The monitoring results are displayed in clear graphs and tables, which can be generated almost instantly to meet your company's reporting needs. The graphical network monitoring tool also features a top list functionality, which shows you at a glance which computer or application has been using most bandwidth.
In addition to its advanced bandwidth monitoring capabilities, PRTG also offers a lot of specialised sensors, which convert PRTG into powerful server monitoring tools, e.g. for UNIX server monitoring, for windows 2003 terminal server monitoring, and for XEN server monitoring.
