Downloading Free Map Images

Here are some good places to start your search:

• "Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection" at the University of Texas at Austin (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/) has a large compilation of maps (literally thousands of items). Quote from the license: "...Materials that are in the public domain (such as images from the Portrait Gallery or most of the maps in the PCL Map Collection), are not copyrighted and no permission is needed to copy them. You may download them and use them as you wish. We appreciate you giving this site credit with the phrase: "Courtesy of the University of Texas Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin."

• Public Domain regional maps of the whole world are available from the "CIA World Factbook" webpage of the CIA (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/docs/refmaps.html). Quote from the license: "... information on the Central Intelligence Agency Web site is in the public domain and may be reproduced, published or otherwise used without the Central Intelligence Agency's permission. We request only that the Central Intelligence Agency be cited as the source of the information..."

How to Use the Images in PRTG Network Monitor

You can either use the images as map background (see Map Settings, section Map Layout for the upload) or you copy the images into the folder \webroot\mapicons\iconset9 subfolder of your PRTG installation.

You can use the images in the Map Designer as map objects then. You will find the items in the Properties box in section Static Images.

Note: In versions previous to PRTG 13.2.3, the target folder is \website\mapicons\iconset9.
