Add custom device icons

To extend the device icons available in a device's settings, you can add your own custom images to PRTG. To do so, copy your custom image into the \webroot\icons\devices subfolder of the PRTG program directory.

PRTG still provides the option to modify the appearance of the PRTG web interface as described in this article, but please note that this is an unsupported feature.

Requirements

  • The PNG image must be exactly 14x14 pixels. If it is not this size, it will not be clinched/stretched automatically on all pages of the PRTG web interface!
  • You must save the image in PNG format. Otherwise, it will not appear in the device icon list.
  • Optionally, you can also use SVG format (preferably TinySVG 1.2 compliant). In this case, you must additionally save the image in PNG format. Both images must have the same filename.
  • Avoid blank characters in the filename (for example, instead of web server.png use webserver.png or web_server.png)

After adding your custom image, the icon immediately shows up the next time you open a device's settings.

Note: If the icon does not show up immediately, (re)load the lookup files by clicking the Go! button in the PRTG web interface under Setup | System Administration | Administrative Tools, section Load Lookups and File Lists.

Custom device icons in a cluster

In a cluster, make sure you add the custom icons on every cluster node, so they show up in the PRTG web interface of whatever cluster node you log in to.

If a custom icon is set for a device, but it does not exist in the respective subfolder of the PRTG program directory of a cluster node, the PRTG web interface of this cluster node will show a standard device icon instead.

Custom device icons in PRTG Desktop

As of version 19.19.6, PRTG Desktop supports custom device icons in TinySVG 1.2 format.

"After adding it, the icon will show up immediately the next time you enter a device's settings page."

--> We had to restart the services before we have seen our device icons (Version PRTG Network Monitor 17.3.33.2830 x64).

Hi Urs,

If it does not show up as expected, hitting "Reload File Lists" in Setup | System Administration | Administrative Tools will take care of it.

Kind regards,

Erhard
