sFlow monitoring on DELL Force10 s4810

Hi,

I turned on sFlow on my s4810 and configured my PRTG server as collector. The switch reports that sFlow exports are sent to the collector but the sFlow sensor doesn't show any data.

The switch settings work well if I use Imon sFlowTrend.

Does PRTG support sFlow on Force 10 switches?

dell force10 sflow

Hi,
please download the sFlow Tester and let it run on the machine where PRTG is running on. What results do you get?

Hi, thank you for the fast reply.

I ran sFlowTester on the PRTG server and it shows "Sample Format" - errors for all received samples.

The switch is configured like this:

sflow collector 172.27.200.20 agent-addr 172.27.226.200 sflow enable sflow polling-interval 60 sflow sample-rate 8192

show sflow output:

{{{sFlow services are enabled Global default sampling rate: 8192 Global default counter polling interval: 60 Global extended information enabled: none 2 collectors configured Collector IP addr: 172.27.200.20, Agent IP addr: 172.27.226.200, UDP port: 6343 1669624 UDP packets exported 0 UDP packets dropped 25371772 sFlow samples collected

Stack-Unit 0 Port set 0 Te 0/0: configured rate 8192, actual rate 8192}}}

According to the FTOS 9.1 Config Guide the device is running sFlow v5.

Any findings on that? I looked into the S4810 flows and it looked like Dell FTOS is reversing the src and dst mac addresses and is not RFC3176 conform.

we will set up our new PowerConnects 8132 in our data center next week and enable sFlow.

Hopefully they do send the same type of sFlow data so that we can work on it, and make changes to our sFlow sensor if necessary.

I just setup two Dell Force10 s4810 to send sFlow data to a PRTG probe. When I used the PRTG sflow tester it is failing at step 4 "Sample Format". According to the force10 manual:

"FTOS supports sFlow version 5. sFlow is a standard-based sampling technology embedded within switches and routers which is used to monitor network traffic. It is designed to provide traffic monitoring for high speed networks with many switches and routers."

they are using sFlow version 5. Is this an issue with the PRTG implementation of the collector or the agent on the force10 s4810 device? I can provide wireshark captures and anything else to get this resolved and can contact Dell engineers if this is a bug on their end to get his fixed.

Hi all,
the current Preview Version of PRTG contains a fix which allows you to read sFlow from Force10 switches. This release will become stable soon.
Best regards
