SMTP/POP3 and SMTP/IMAP Email Round Trip Sensors Two dedicated email round-trip sensors monitor the availability of SMTP, POP and IMAP servers and perform round-trip email tests at regular intervals or on demand to ensure that both incoming and outgoing email services are working. If any problems are detected, alerts will be triggered and assigned administrative contacts are notified.
Compared to the standard SMTP, POP3 and IMAP sensors which only check the availability of these services, the new roundtrip email sensor types monitor the time it takes from accepting the mail on the first email server to delivery of the mail on the final POP3 or IMAP server. Performance data is collected and stored in PRTG, enabling network administrators to measure and report on email service levels in real time or over a period of time to identify trends.
