Check Network Traffic
PRTG Network Monitor enables you to analyze network traffic. This gives you detailed data that can be used to analyze bandwidth consumption in your network.
How Does PRTG Check Network Traffic?
PRTG's bandwidth controller uses SNMP to check network traffic and many other parameters, such as CPU loads, temperatures, disk usage, etc. Compared to PRTG's other bandwidth monitoring technologies (xFlow/NetFlow, Packet Sniffer and WMI), SNMP network monitoring creates only little CPU and network load. PRTG Network Monitor is also a comprehensive IP traffic monitor for Windows networks. IP monitoring can prevent problems and help to optimize the network in general.
Other Features: Server and Website Monitoring and more
Besides SNMP, packet sniffing and NetFlow monitoring, the internet usage meter PRTG also offers lots of features for enhanced bandwidth latency and remote server monitoring and website testing. One of the most basic and most widely used functions of PRTG Network Monitor is the Internet PING tool. With the help of a PING test, you can check whether a network device such as a server responds, or a website is available. When you conduct an Internet PING test, you send a small data packet to the web server, and if it returns, you know that the website can be reached.
Paessler also offers the web load testing software Web server Stress Tool. It can carry out a variety of different tests that check the web server performance. The performance tests query single URLs of a web server to identify elements that may be responsible for a slow performance. The load test checks your entire website at the normal expected load.
