Blog Entry of 2008-May-14 in PRTG 7
Listening to Customer Requests. That's what we've done - for PRTG 7.
- One request was: "Make it possible to edit the sensors and settings from the web interface". That's what we've done. As we decided to go this route it was the logical choice to drop the Windows interface alltogether (and not only because we wouldn't be able to actually create two interfaces (Web&Windows) in acceptable time due to limited developer resources).
- Another request was: "I need both the features from PRTG and IPCheck" or "I need IPCheck's feature X in PRTG and PRTG's feature Y in IPCheck". That's what we've done. We basically created a new software that contains all features of PRTG as well as all features of IPCheck (with a few exceptions).
- A good number of customers said: "I need to monitor 2000/3000/4000 and more sensors. Create a software that can handle this and an interface that enables me to manage all these sensors". That's what we've done. PRTG 7 now supports monitoring up to 30.000 sensors with just one installation. And the user interface and the new autodiscovery feature make it easy to create and manage these many sensors.
- Often we heard: "Feature X is too complicated. Make it easier to use". That's what we've done. We believe that at least 90% of the funtionality of PRTG 7 is now easier to use than their counterparts from IPCheck5 and PRTG6 - At least if you are looking at the software as a newbie. If your are used PRTG6/IPCheck5 this fact may actually be in your way at the first moment.
